The State College Gig Got Cancelled (don't worry, it's not much of a college town)
I went to the State College "Brewfest" (Beer Party) with the ol' Liberty HS gang this past weekend. Very little sleep, but lots of beer from every corner of the globe. Also Mario Soccer with Philip. Nobody told me there were gigantic bombs involved.
Couple favorites...
It's tough representing DX when you're trying to hold a beer program and a filled sampler glass in one hand. As for the other one, I feel no need to say anything.

When your blog opened, I sold that shit.
(he says it's not much of a college town)
David St. Hubbins (20 years later, deadpan): I think that turned out to be a lie.
Brilliant.
See you Saturday.
FACE!!
In my head, I kept thinking "It's not much of a college town" was a Simpsons reference. It's probobly because of its sheer Harry Shearerdness.
(I even shuddered at that pun...no more 4 AM blogging.)
I traveled from Mbalmayo to Bangang the last few days. To do so, one catches a bus (all vans and buses in this country only operate when at 150% capacity, so you always need to wait until the "vehicle" [most things people drive here would be considered totalled by US standards] fills up) to Yaounde, a taxi across town to "the worst place on Earth," another bus to Bafoussam (many of which crash spectacularly), a taxi across Bafoussam, a van/taxi/whatever to Mbouda (my ride was the remains of a van, out of which the driver kept yelling "Mbouda! Mbouda!" as we drove through the market until the thing filled up), a motorcycle taxi to Batcham (a few miles away), and then you wait a few hours until a car fills up (and apparently a Peugot is not full until there are 9 or 10 passengers and a few chickens) for the last hour drive to Bangang. And there you are. And here I am.
My favorite story from the road the last few days:
My traveling companion and I were having some pillow talk in the hotel in Bafoussam, and she was gushing about how badly she wanted a milkshake when we got back to Yaounde. Jokingly, I said, "Really, are you going to cry when we get to the boulangerie?"
"Haha, yeah."
I turned to look at her.
"Wait, are you actually crying right now?"
"Yeah."
Well, sir, I have good news to report: the 2-screen, 6-player X men is still alive and well in the Stone Harbor arcade. I suppose the press from the movies has kept it alive the past few years. Stev and I played a few rounds on it and felt very good about ourselves.
Other than that, this town is LAME. I just spent five bucks to use the net for half an hour. GUAY!!!
